Shaq Lawson Injury Hits Close to Home for Jags Fans

It sounds all too familiar for Jaguars fans. But, this year, they are happy it’s not them. Buffalo Bills rookie defensive end Shaq Lawson injured his shoulder during rookie minicamp and now he has to have surgery on it.

Rewind to Jaguars rookie minicamp last year for a moment. The rookies were out on the football field for about 30 minutes. The whistle is blown for the players to line up for 11-on-11 drills. On the very first play, Dante Fowler Jr., the 3rd overall pick in the 2015 draft, drops to the ground holding his knee. It was a torn ACL. He wouldn’t see the field that year.

It was one of my first few days as the Jaguars reporter for 1010XL and I remember watching it happen, not thinking it would end up being a big deal. Oh, was I wrong. Within minutes, he was helped off the field. Word spread quickly and my phone rang. It was the producer back at the station wanting me to call in to the show and explain what I saw. At the time, no one knew the severity of what we watched happen that day.

Now, the Bills are dealing with the same situation.
