Women’s Center names Teresa Miles as CEO
As the Women’s Center’s second CEO she will continue Shirley Webb’s progressive legacy.
Jacksonville, Fl: On Monday, April 4th, the Women’s Center of Jacksonville will have it’s first new director since it’s inception in 1995. Teresa Miles was selected among numerous applicants, bringing a deep-seated passion for social work and addressing women’s issues.
Teresa has spent the past 30 years working in child welfare, and was the Executive Director for the Children’s Home Society of Florida in Melbourne since 2005. Coming to Jacksonville to continue Shirley Webb’s legacy brings Teresa back to her roots while allowing her to further her mission as an advocate for women. “When I was in college I worked a lot on different women’s issues, and for the past several years I have dedicated time as a Sexual Assault Victim’s Advocate. It’s really fulfilling to me to be able to help someone at one of the most difficult times of their life. So, when this opportunity came up, I just knew I wanted to go back into women’s services.”
Teresa has been transitioning into her new role under the tutelage of founder, Shirley Webb, and has been meeting with donors, Board members, and staff. Along with providing assistance to the women of Jacksonville, one of Teresa’s goals is “to make Shirley Webb proud.” She will be working to combine Shirley’s vision for the Center with ideas and plans that will keep the Women’s Center moving forward. “It really is about furthering the individual lives of people. I hope that at the end people will say that I’m kind and that I’ve made a difference. And so much of that is based on what’s already been established.”

Started in 1995, the Women’s Center was created to help women overcome social, economic and personal barriers.
