Florida-Georgia Staying in Jacksonville
The Florida-Georgia football game will remain in Jacksonville for the foreseeable future.
Jacksonville and Everbank Field will continue hosting the Florida-Georgia game through at least 2021. A five-year contract extension between the city and the schools was announced by Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry on Tuesday.
“We could not be more excited about our continued partnership with two of the nation’s finest universities,” Curry said. “Our new agreement further strengthens the Georgia-Florida tradition we have enjoyed here in Jacksonville for 83 years.”
The new deal will pay each school an additional $250,000 annually on top of the terms of the previous agreement. Renegotiations on another extension will open after the 2018 game, Curry said.
“We are excited to continue the tradition of playing the Florida-Georgia game in Jacksonville,” Florida athletic director Jeremy Foley said. “As I’ve said a number of times over the years, the game belongs in Jacksonville.”
