Thodos Dance Chicago at The Thrasher-Horne Center
The Thrasher-Horne Center for the Arts continues its groundbreaking inaugural season under new Executive Director Denton Yockey with Thodos Dance Chicago and their awe-inspiring modern dance production of A Light In The Dark: The Story of Helen Keller & Anne Sullivan on Thursday, January 28, 2016.
For 23 years, Thodos Dance Chicago has performed with a captivating style described as "breathtakingly athletic" and "powerfully beautiful." The company's dedication to the American voice in contemporary dance has established TDC as an innovative presence in the modern dance landscape. Their latest major creation, A Light in the Dark, is a story ballet choreographed by Melissa Thodos and Tony Award winner Ann Reinking. It is based on the book "The Miracle Worker", by William Gibson, and Anne Sullivan's autobiography. This groundbreaking performance will be presented at the Thrasher-Horne Center for one night only, January 28th at 7:30PM.
On Sunday, January 10 at 7 PM, tune into WJCT for their premiere of Shine: Making A Light In The Dark, Emmy Award®-winning producer/director Christopher Kai Olsen's feature of Thodos Dance Chicago. It documents their creation of A Light in the Dark, capturing a visceral portrait of the creative process that gave rise to this revolutionary story ballet. Watch inspirational behind-the-scenes events, experience intimate closed-door rehearsals, and hear compelling insights on the balletmaking process from co-creators Melissa Thodos and Ann Reinking, as well as many of the dancers who helped bring this interpretation of the Helen Keller story to life.
The Thrasher-Horne Center is a not-for profit performing arts venue and conference center owned and operated by St. Johns River State College located on the Orange Park campus at 283 College Drive in Orange Park, Florida.
