I-95/Old St. Augustine Road improvements starting soon

Another I-95 construction project will soon be underway. Here's a brief look at the improvements coming to the I-95/Old St. Augustine Road interchange.
Lanes and ramps at the interchange of I-95 and Old St. Augustine Road will soon undergo $3.7 million worth of improvements to help ease roadway congestion in the area. The Florida Department of Transportation’s project includes widening and resurfacing I-95 near the Old St. Augustine Road overpass and widening and resurfacing the Old St. Augustine Road exit ramps.

Northbound and southbound lanes of I-95, from just north of the Old St. Augustine Road overpass to a half-mile south of the Greenland Road overpass, will be widened from the current six lanes to eight lanes.

The project also includes widening both the I-95 southbound and northbound exit ramps to Old St. Augustine Road, adding new shoulders and creating additional left turn lanes.

New signage, pavement markings and safety and signal upgrades are also included in the project.

Drivers should expect nighttime lane closures from approximately 8 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Sunday through Thursday during the duration of the project, weather permitting. Work is scheduled to be temporarily suspended during holidays and special events.

Petticoat Schmitt Civil Contractors, Inc. of Jacksonville is the contractor. The project is scheduled to begin the week of January 25 and is expected to be complete in fall 2016.
