FDOT to discuss plans for Hendricks/San Jose Project
Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) hosts a public meeting Tuesday, January 12 to discuss proposed improvements along Hendricks Avenue/San Jose Boulevard (State Road 13) between San Marco Boulevard and Cornell Road.
FDOT staff will be available to provide information and answer questions at the informal “open house” between 4:30 and 6:30 p.m. followed by public comments at 6:30 p.m. No formal presentation will be made. The location is the FDOT Training Center, 2198 Edison Avenue, Jacksonville.
The proposed improvements include resurfacing three miles of Hendricks Avenue/San Jose Boulevard, removing on-street parking, constructing a 7-foot wide bike lane, reconstructing driveways at businesses at the southeast corner of the Arcadia Drive intersection, reconfiguring the merge lane at the southernmost San Jose Boulevard intersection, replacing pedestrian signals with countdown signals and reconstructing ramps and curbs to comply with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements.
The average traffic along this section of San Jose Boulevard/Hendricks Avenue ranges from 22,000 to 27,000 vehicles per day. This section of roadway serves a high volume of bicycle and pedestrian traffic and is a route for the North Florida Bicycle Club.
Construction is scheduled to begin in 2017 at an estimated cost of $4.6 million.
