Toll lanes for I-95 Under Consideration
Get used to seeing construction cones on I-95. More are on the way. Tolls will also return.
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is proposing to add 14 miles of tolled express lanes on Interstate 95. According to the FDOT, express lanes are an innovative concept to manage traffic congestion by providing more capacity in areas where traffic congestion is a major problem.
At this time, the FDOT is proposing the construction of express lanes on I-95 from International Golf Parkway in St. Johns County to I-295 in Jacksonville. In addition, the inclusion of potential noise barrier walls are under evaluation.
Tolled lanes will be added to I-95 between World Golf Village and I-295 in Mandarin.
If implemented, this would become the third express lane project proposed for North Florida. An $89 million, 4.2-mile project to add tolled express lanes is already under construction on I-295 West Beltway between I-95 and the Buckman Bridge. A $149 million, 5-mile project to add tolled lanes to I-295 East Beltway between State Road 9B and Bulter Boulevard is expected to break ground in a few months.
