America Comes to the Thrasher Horne Center!
The Thrasher-Horne Center for the Arts continues its groundbreaking inaugural season under new Executive Director Denton Yockey with classic rock duo America on Friday, November 13, 2015.
Live in concert! Classic rockers America are celebrating their 45th anniversary. From signature song "A Horse With No Name" to other hits "I Need You,” "Ventura Highway" and "Don’t Cross The River Man,” America is set to take you on a musical journey through the decades. America quickly found success with a string of #1 and top 10 hits, earning a Grammy Award for Best New Artist in 1972, and six certified gold and platinum albums throughout their career.
America was formed in England in 1970 by multi-instrumentalists Dewey Bunnell, Dan Peek, and Gerry Beckley. The trio first met as sons of U.S. Air Force personnel stationed in London, where they began performing live. America achieved significant popularity in the 1970s, and was famous for the trio's close vocal harmonies and light acoustic folk sound. This popularity was confirmed by a string of hit albums and singles, many of which found airplay on pop/soft rock stations. Four decades into their career, the group continues to record material and tour with regularity. Their 2007 album Here & Now was a collaboration with a new generation of musicians who credited the band as an influence. America has been inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame and has received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
