UNF tops JU; but that's not all the excitement
A night of local college basketball at Veterans Memorial Arena.
This past weekend, the University of North Florida (UNF) and Jacksonville UNiversity's UNF men's basketball teams face off at the Veterans Memorial Arena. The game opened conference play for both teams. There seemed to be quite the crowd, so much so that extra ticket windows needed to be opened for unexpected ticket sales.
UNF went on to win the game 86-63, improving UNF's record to 9-9. The Osprey's skill on the court was not to be outdone by their fans' celebration. While JU's fans did call for more defense or to let the team play because they were down by 20 points, UNF's fans cheered, stomped, clapped, and chanted throughout the game.
High energy basketball and competition were not the only things that were at this game. Thanks to JU's ESPN3 truck, this was the debut game to stream live over watchESPN.com (article link: https://www.judolphins.com/sports/general/ESPN3) There were also several celebrities at the game. JU's own alumnus, Artis Gilmore, an NBA hall of famer, broadcast the game on ESPN 3. Mayor Alvin Brown made an appearance. Gene Frenette, a Times Union sports reporter was reporting on the game, along with David Lamm and Frank Frangie, sports personalities with 1010XL. Brent Martineau was also in attendance.
Make sure you catch part two if the match up at UNF on February 6th at the UNF Arena. It has turned into a great rivalry and should not be missed.
