5 Awesome Apartments Coming To Downtown

Development is starting to heat up again in and around downtown. Here are five cool urban apartment projects already under construction or proposed.
1. 220 Riverside Apartments



Location: 220 Riverside Avenue

220 Riverside is being designed to exhibit the perfect balance between luxury and urban living. 220 Riverside’s designer-inspired Studio, 1 and 2 bedroom floor plans feature granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, upscale cabinetry with brushed nickel hardware, faux hardwood flooring, and washer/dryer sets in each unit. Amenities include a connection cafe, fitness studio, resort-style salt water pool, grilling areas and outdoor social areas. The 294 unit development is expected to open Spring 2015.

2. The Barnett



Location: 112 West Adams Street

The SouthEast Group's plans call for the $30 million restoration of the historic 18-story Barnett Building into a 160,000 square foot campus for makers, doers, founders and dreamers. 80 residential loft apartment units on floors 9 through 16 are included in their plans to activate the heart of the Northbank core. Assuming the SouthEast Group and the City of Jacksonville can come to an agreement on the redevelopment plans of The Barnett and adjacent Laura Trio, construction on the 16-month project could begin this year.

3. The Brooklyn Riverside



Location: Intersection of Magnolia and Stonewall Streets

Under development by Pollock Shores Real Estate Group, the Brooklyn Riverside is a 310 unit luxury apartment complex between Riverside Avenue and Park Street in Brooklyn. 4. Laura Apartments


225 North Laura Street

Location: 225 North Laura Street

Quietly, one of downtown's most successful merchants has decided to move forward with a project that promises to add life to Laura Street and Hemming Plaza. In 2008, Ron Chamblin, owner of the city's largest independent bookstore, opened Chamblin's Uptown at 215 North Laura Street. Now Chamblin is moving forward with his next endeavor, an urban mixed use project at 225 North Laura Street, immediately adjacent to his popular bookstore. Completed in 1904 and overlooking Hemming Park, the 3-story 6,552-square-foot building was known as the Laura Apartments.

5. Springfield Renovations, Restorations & Infill



Location: Springfield Historic District

Although Springfield is is just north of downtown, there are several small scale redevelopment, restoration and infill projects worth checking out for anyone interested in urban living.  This two-story industrial chic live/work loft, at 19 West 6th Street, is one small scale infill project nearing completion.
