Main Street Bridge Ramp Closure Meeting Tonight

A proposal to close the southbound ramp from Independent Drive to the Main Street Bridge is the focus of a public hearing this evening at the Hyatt Regency located at 225 East Coastline Drive.
Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is hosting the meeting beginning at 4:30 p.m. with open discussion followed by a presentation and public comments at 6:30 p.m.

The ramp closure is being requested by the City of Jacksonville due to redevelopment of the area. Traffic along Independent Drive would be directed around the block parallel to Ocean Street to Bay Street and then to Main Street southbound. Pedestrians and bicyclists could use Laura Street, Bay Street and Main Street to cross the bridge.

Those attending the meeting may park in the hotel parking garage at no charge as long as they exchange their parking ticket for a voucher at the meeting.

Public participation is solicited without regard to race, color, religion, sex, age, national origin, disability or family status.

Those who are unable to attend but wish to provide comments can write FDOT project manager Will Lyons at will.lyons@dot.state.fl.us or by calling 904-360-5574.

There's a concern in the bicycle and pedestrian community that removing the onramp will reduce walkability.
