Delores Weaver Fund: Scholarships to TEDxJacksonville
One of the largest foundations in Northeast Florida is providing scholarships for some of Duval County's best teachers and their students to attend TEDxJacksonville.
TED Talks are increasingly becoming a tool that educators use in their classroom to motivate their students. TED-Ed even offers “lessons worth sharing,” where teachers can customize lessons around any TED Talk or relevant You Tube video.
TEDxJacksonville is inviting Duval County educators to attend the 2014 conference to bring the inspiration and ideas back to their classrooms as they encourage and inspire tomorrow’s greatest thinkers and doers.
For the very first time, TEDxJacksonville is awarding scholarships to cover the cost of attendance for selected individuals to attend the annual conference. With a sponsorship from The Delores Barr Weaver Fund at The Community Foundation for Northeast Florida, 42 scholarships have been awarded to the 2014 Teachers of the Year from Duval County Public High Schools and the students of their choice to attend this year's TEDxJacksonville conference, (un)knowing. This scholarship honors some of the brightest in Duval County with a full day of inspiring ideas, storytelling, new perspectives, delicious locally-sourced food, exciting art and performances, and an openness to share and listen.
At TEDxJacksonville, we value and celebrate learning, sharing, and doing. We believe that change doesn’t come by simply disseminating ideas. It requires bringing together community members that can turn those ideas into reality. While any DCPS teacher or student is eligible to apply to attend TEDxJacksonville, we’ve selected the Teacher’s of the Year to recognize their contributions to our education system and allow them to shine a light on an exceptional student who will contribute to and benefit from our conference. These are the individuals that can take the TEDx talk concepts that are directly relevant to our city, and turn them into reality.
In the event an awarded teacher cannot attend, we will honor the wishes of Delores Barr Weaver and repurpose their seat and scholarship to college students whoapply to attend TEDxJacksonville.
The next round of invitations to attend TEDxJacksonville will go out to select applicants on October 1.
