Springfield’s 2014 Home & Garden Tour (and Bike Tour!)

This weekend, witness the transformation of Jacksonville’s oldest neighborhood first hand, at the 36th Annual Historic Springfield Home Tour (and Bike Tour)!
For 36 years, the Springfield historic district has been showing off it’s unique character, architecture, and pedestrian friendly streetscapes through home tours. Once ground zero for Jacksonville’s poverty and blight, it’s now in the midst of a generational transformation, literally rising from the ashes to become a popular neighborhood for those seeking an eclectic, diverse, and semi-urban lifestyle. The 2014 edition of the tour highlights this transformation by featuring only original, historic homes and venues in some stage of renovation.

You’ll find turn-of-the-century showpiece homes & multifamily finished spectacularly, a freshly minted 2014 Preservation Award Winner, a raw pre-renovation wreck with big plans for a “net-zero” green renovation, a Frank Lloyd Wright inspired commercial space , stark Before & After’s, and a variety of other truly unique venues brought back to life – 8 in total. And if you’d like an extended tour of the historic district, the guided bicycle tour edition highlights all the venues on the Home Tour along with the characters, events, places, and architecture throughout the neighborhood that makes #SPR distinct.

The sound of hammer to nail in Springfield is quite popular (and welcomed) these days, and the neighborhood is ripe with renovation potential. Come see how that potential is transformed into reality first hand.
