FDOT proposing safety improvements to Baymeadows Road

The days of dirt paths for sidewalks along Baymeadows Road are numbered. Proposed improvements to a busy stretch of Baymeadows will be unveiled this evening at a Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) public hearing.
Jacksonville – Proposed improvements to a busy stretch of Baymeadows Road (State Road 152) will be unveiled Thursday at a Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) public hearing which includes closing some median openings.

The informal open house is at the Embassy Suites located at 9300 Baymeadows Road. Those interested can stop by anytime between 4:30 and 6:30 p.m. to look at maps and talk to FDOT staff. Formal comments will be taken beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Baymeadows Road between Freedom Commerce Parkway and Country Day School Drive is proposed for safety upgrades including adding turn lanes at multiple intersections and new sidewalk. In order to install turn lanes just west of Southside Boulevard, it is proposed to close a median opening on both Baymeadows Road and Old Baymeadows Road.

Construction is tentatively scheduled to begin in the Summer of 2016 at an estimated cost of $5.6 million. Right of way may also be purchased where needed to widen the roadway at the intersections with Freedom Commerce Parkway, Western Way, Old Baymeadows Road and at Southside Boulevard. An average of 47,500 vehicles a day travel this section of Baymeadows Road.
