Neighborhoods: Southpoint
Metro Jacksonville takes a drive through one of the region's premier employment centers: Southpoint.
Formerly a Skinner's Dairy cow pasture, the Southpoint office and light industrial park was a joint venture project developed by the Bryant Skinner Company and Gate Petroleum in 1980. Situated at the interchange of Interstate 95 and Butler Boulevard, Southpoint was envisioned as a three phase development. The first phase was a 75-acre tract just east of Salisbury Road. Phase II was a 50-acre tract between Phase 1 and Belfort Road. Phase III consisted of 75-acres on the east side of Interstate 95, between Butler Boulevard and Bowden Road. Originally, 100-acres on the southside of Butler Boulevard was envisioned to become a regional shopping mall developed by Equity Property Development Corporation of Chicago and New York. Southpoint's earliest tenants were Xomed Corporation, Southeast Industrial Tape, and Check Printers. Over the last 34 years, Southpoint has grown to become one of Jacksonville's premier employment centers.
