2012 City Population Estimates Released

The Census Bureau recently released their 2012 estimates for the country's largest cities. Despite having the largest land area in the continental United States, Jacksonville has been passed by Austin, TX and now is on the verge of being surpassed in population by several other cities. Today, Metro Jacksonville shares the population estimates of all American cities with more than 50,000 residents to illustrate where Jacksonville's growth fits in with the rest of the country.
The 15 Most Populous Cities: July 1, 2012

 1. New York City - 8,336,697

 2. Los Angeles - 3,857,799

 3. Chicago - 2,714,856

 4. Houston - 2,160,821

 5. Philadelphia - 1,547,607

 6. Phoenix - 1,488,750

 7. San Antonio - 1,382,951

 8. San Diego - 1,338,348

 9. Dallas - 1,241,162

10. San Jose - 982,765

11. Austin - 842,592

12. Jacksonville - 836,507

13. Indianapolis - 834,852

14. San Francisco - 825,863

Jacksonville is now the 12th largest city by population in the country.  Austin, TX is now the country's 11th largest.
