Urban Construction Update - February 2013

A brief look at the status of various projects under construction in and around Downtown Jacksonville during the month of February 2013.
Downtown

Might As Well Cafe

The Might As Well Cafe will be opening in this street level retail space at 410 Broad Street.  The restaurant will serve French-inspired fare and gourmet sandwiches.




Family Dollar

Work continues for a new Family Dollar store at State and Newnan Streets.




McDonald's Restaurant

Construction on a $3.7 million McDonald's restaurant at the intersection of State and Market Street nears completion.








Pita Pit

Pita Pit is in the process of opening their third Jacksonville area location in the courthouse garage, at Forsyth & Clay Streets. Pita Pit bills itself as “an alternative to fast food restaurants,” offering a large selection of meat and veggie pitas, including Chicken Caesar, Philly Steak, Dagwood, Falafel, Spicy Black Bean, Hummus and more. Pita Pit also offers breakfast pita – available throughout the day – including Sausage Scramble, Ham N’ Eggs, Awakin’ with Bacon and more.





220 Riverside

Construction of 220 Riverside continues.  220 Riverside will feature 18,000 square feet of retail and 294 apartment units when complete in 2014.








RIVERSIDE/AVONDALE

Cummer Museum

The restoration of Olmstead Gardens and a major parking/landscaping enhancement project continues.






Corrado's Bakery Bistro

Corrado's Bakery Bistro will be opening soon at 813 Lomax Street in Five Points.




1020 Park Street

A new cafe has recently opened at 1020 Park Street in Five Points. This was the former location of Spot 5 on Park.




2136 St. Johns Avenue

2136 St. Johns Avenue is a good example of infill new construction residential in the urban core.




2216 Oak Street

Snap Fitness' move into this historic "streetcar" transit oriented development commercial building (constructed in 1923) at 2216 Oak Street is complete.




Goozlepipe & Guttyworks

Construction is now underway on King Street's Goozlepipe and Guttyworks.  The estimated value of the project is $1.5 million.

Mellow Mushroom Avondale

Mellow Mushroom has filed plans with the City to develop the Avondale restaurant. The restaurant's Facebook page indicates a June opening.




Pulp Juice Bar

Pulp Juice Bar's long awaited second location on Avondale's St. Johns Avenue is finally moving forward. Building permits were issued in late January.




Ale Pie House Italian Restaurant

The Ale Pie House will be opening at 3951 St. Johns Avenue.




Metro Diner - Roosevelt Square

Metro Diner will be opening a new location in the former Harry's Restaurant space at Roosevelt Square.




Robert E. Lee High School

Reconstruction continues to progress at Robert E. Lee High School.








Terra Restaurant

Terra Restaurant will be opening soon at 4250 Herschel Street. It will feature local, sustainable and world ingredients, including some vegetables and herbs from the restaurant’s own organic garden. Terra will offer both lunch and dinner service. Sunday brunch service will follow in the coming weeks.






Waffle House - Roosevelt Boulevard

One of several Waffle Houses being built in Jacksonville is nearing completion on Roosevelt Boulevard.

Avela Day Spa

A new day salon has recently opened at 1445 North Main Street.




201 11th Street

Facade enhancements have been recently made this loft apartment building at 11th & Silver Streets.






Klutho Park

A new look for a portion of Klutho Park bordered by Hogans Creek and West 1st Street.





SAN MARCO

San Marco Boulevard Streetscape

Construction of the San Marco Square roundabout is now underway as a part of the San Marco Boulevard Streetscape project.  when complete, a new greenspace will anchor the popular commercial district.






Aardwolf Brewery

Construction continues on the adaptive reuse of this historic Hendricks Avenue ice plant into the Aardwolf Brewery. Aardwolf anticipates opening the brewery's taproom in January 2013.






San Marco Station

Construction is underway on San Marco Train Station project, which will be anchored by Panera Bread.
