Major FDOT Project List for 2014 Released
Governor Scott's Florida Families First Budget for Fiscal Year 2014 fully funds the Florida Department of Transportation's (FDOT) Work Program investments in port, highway, bridge and other transportation infrastructure improvements. Here is a list of funded transportation infrastructure projects in Jacksonville and the throughout Florida for 2014.

Jacksonville and Northeast Florida
Additional funds for the Outer Beltway, toll lanes for I-295, and the Mile Point fix for JAXPORT are major in store for Jacksonville next year.
• $36.0M to correct navigational problems at JAXPORT in Duval County – jump-starts Phase II of the port improvement to ensure cargo ships can access terminals despite tide conditions
• $60.5M to replace a bridge on Duval County SR 105 (Heckscher Drive) over Sisters Creek in Duval County – existing bascule bridge replaced with a fixed span structure with lower operating costs
• $85.3M to add managed lanes on I-295 (State Road 9A) from Buckman Bridge to I-95 in Duval County – alleviates congestion in the general use lane and provides long-term mobility by managing demand
• $15.0M to add lanes and reconstruct on State Road 200 (A1A) from Still Quarters Road to Rubin Lane in Nassau County – relieves congestion and improves the movement of people and goods
• $3.1M to improve the interchange at I-75 (State Road 93) and US 90 in Columbia County – relieves congestion and improves travel times
• $98.9M to construct a new expressway on State Road 23 (First Coast Outer Beltway) in Duval and Clay counties – provides a limited access, all electronic toll facility to promote the movement of people and freight
Northwest Florida
Northwest Florida's major roadway construction project is the widening of I-10 near Pensacola.
• $50.1M to add lanes and reconstruct I-10 from State Road 291 (Davis Highway) to State Road 10A (US 90) Scenic Highway in Escambia County - relieves congestion along the I-10 corridor
• $12.4M to add lands and reconstruct State Road 123 from north of Turkey Creek to State Road 85 including the northbound flyover onto State Road 85 in Okaloosa County– relieves congestion and improves the movement of people and freight
• $17.1M to replace Yellow River Bridge on State Road 10 (US 90) west of Crestview in Okaloosa County – replaces a structurally deficient low-level bridge on a major east-west corridor for the Florida Panhandle
Southwest Florida
More roadway lanes and an I-75 bridge rehabilitation project for Southwest Florida.
• $80.0M to rehabilitate a bridge and add lanes on I-75 from State Road 80 to State Road 78 in Lee County – promotes the movement of people and freight
• $58.3M to add lanes and reconstruct US 41 from State Road 951 to Greenway Road in Collier County – the project will relieve congestion along a major corridor
• $2.1M to widen and resurface existing lanes on State Road 84 from County Barn Road to Santa Barbara Boulevard in Collier County – adds curbs and gutters to allow landscaping, bike lanes, lighting and sidewalks
Southeast Florida
A streetcar in downtown Fort Lauderdale is the only major transit project being funded by FDOT in 2014.....in the entire state.
• $34.5M to add seaport capacity to the Port Everglades Southport Turning Notch in Broward County – increases freight mobility and creates jobs
• $112.5M to add managed lanes on I-75 from North of Griffin Road to I-595 in Broward County - expands regional managed lanes network in South Florida and provides alternate travel routes through congested urban areas
• $25.0M to construct The Wave, a transit streetcar system in downtown Fort Lauderdale in Broward County – enhances pedestrian movement and promotes economic redevelopment in the central business district
• $9.3M to widen the slip at the Port of Palm Beach in Palm Beach County – increases capacity for larger ships and promotes economic opportunity
• $285.3M to add managed lanes on State Road 826 from Flagler Street to Northwest 154th Street and on I-75 from State Road 826 to Northwest 170th Street in Miami-Dade County – expands regional managed lanes network in South Florida and provides alternate travel routes through congested urban areas
• $16.7M to widen County Road 714 (Indian Street) from the Turnpike (Martin Downs Boulevard) to west of Mapp Road in Martin County – enhances the movement of people and freight and relieves congestion by diverting traffic
• $35.0M to construct the Crosstown Parkway Bridge in St. Lucie County – provides additional capacity and enhances the movement of people and freight
• $154.0M to add lanes and reconstruct the Homestead Extension of the Florida Turnpike from Kendall to Bird Road in Miami-Dade County – includes express lanes and interchange improvements which relieve congestion, enhance access and provide motorists alternatives
• $25.1M to add lanes and reconstruct State Road 823 (Northwest 57th Avenue) from West 53rd Street to West 65th Street and from West 65th Street to West 84th Street in Miami-Dade County – enhances traffic flow on a key roadway for residents and surrounding areas
• $8.7M to resurface from south of MacDonald to south of Coppitt Road and add a sidewalk from Roosevelt Boulevard to south of MacDonald on State Road 5 in Monroe County – provides bicycle and pedestrian safety improvements and promotes economic prosperity
East Central Florida
Money is on the way to improve State Road 50 in Orange County.
• $42.1M to widen the entrance to the West Turn Basin in Port Canaveral in Brevard County – creates jobs and promotes economic opportunity for cargo and cruise industry
• $58.5M to add lanes and rehabilitate pavement on State Road 50 from east of County Road 425 (Dean Road) to east of Old Cheney Highway in Orange County – relieves congestion on a major east-west corridor
West Central Florida
There are a variety of major roadway widening projects headed to the Bay Area.
• $259.3M to add lanes and reconstruct I-75 from the Hernando County line to County Road 470 in Pasco, Hernando and Sumter counties – enhances commerce and provides interregional connectivity along one of the most critical corridors of the state from the Georgia State line to the Tampa Bay region
• $38.4M to add lanes and reconstruct I-75 (State Road 93) from the Pasco/Hernando County line to south of US 98/State Road 50/Cortez in Hernando County – ensures continuous movement of people and freight
• $7.5M to add seaport capacity to Tampa’s Port Redwing in Hillsborough County – improves the movement of freight
• $123.0M to add lanes and rehabilitate pavement on I-75 from north of County Route 54 to north of State Route 52 in Pasco County - improves interstate capacity and allows for greater movement of people and freight through the corridor
• $68.8M to add lanes and reconstruct on the Veteran’s Expressway from south of Gunn Highway to the Sugarwood Mainline Toll Plaza in Hillsborough County – includes express lanes and conversion to an all-electronic toll facility; relieves congestion and enhances safety at tolling points.

Governor Scott’s Florida Families First Budget for FY 2014 fully funds the Florida Department of Transportation’s (FDOT) Work Program investments in port, highway, bridge and other transportation infrastructure improvements. The FDOT budget is built upon the Governor’s vision to invest in job creation and to lower the cost of living for Florida’s families by prioritizing vital transportation projects to facilitate economic development opportunities.
Governor Scott said, “All the signs are positive - the unemployment rate is declining, the housing market is improving, consumer confidence is rising and economic growth in our communities is continuing. This is the right time to fund much needed transportation improvements. These strategic investments will create construction jobs and lay the foundation for the private sector to move to Florida, expand business and create long-term jobs.”
The Governor’s recommended Work Program budget of $8.3 billion ensures the Department of Transportation plays a strong support role in achieving the Governor’s economic and budget priorities. Building the links in the transportation network improves the movement of freight from suppliers to markets and provides employment opportunities for Florida’s families. The budget makes the following investments:
· $3.6 billion for construction of highway projects
· $288 million in seaport infrastructure improvements
· $169 million for aviation improvements
· $287 million for bridge repair and replacement to include replacing 31 bridges
· $765 million for maintenance and operation
· $401 million for public transit development grants
· $144 million for safety initiatives
FDOT Secretary Ananth Prasad said, “By expanding capacity, relieving congestion and moving people and freight more efficiently, we create a state that keeps down the cost of living for our citizens and makes Florida the best place to live, work and visit.”
The Governor’s budget recognizes that transportation investments are important for any economy to thrive – even more so when the Governor’s policies are getting the economy back on track.
It creates short-term jobs – especially in the construction industry which has been disproportionately affected by the economic downturn and it spurs economic development by providing certainty with long-term private sector jobs.
Florida Transportation Builders’ Association President Bob Burleson said, “This is great news for the economy. I appreciate Governor Scott’s leadership in recognizing the importance of transportation in moving Florida forward.”
With the upcoming expansion of the Panama Canal and continued investment in our ports, Florida is uniquely positioned to become a major trade gateway with imports to North America and exports to Latin America and South America.
Florida Ports Council President Doug Wheeler said, “Strategic investments in freight infrastructure and incentives to attract manufacturing are critical to Florida’s ability to create jobs and further grow our economy. Governor Scott’s proposed budget builds on his work thus far to put Floridians back to work, and will position Florida as a global hub for business.”
These key port investments plus highway and railway improvements help the state move forward to develop manufacturing, distribution and logistics jobs and to have the best transportation system in the country.
