Proposed improvements to Philips Highway (US 1) between Bowden Road and south of John Street will be discussed at a public meeting Tuesday (April 2) by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT).

The meeting is at the Fairfield Inn & Suites located at 4888 Lenoir Avenue in Jacksonville. FDOT staff will be available from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. for informal discussion followed by public comments beginning at 6:30 p.m.

FDOT has plans to resurface Philips Highway with work beginning this winter. As part of the resurfacing, FDOT proposes to remove on-street parking and replace with a bicycle lane throughout the project limits. Also, a five-foot wide sidewalk will be added to both sides of the road where there are no sidewalks now.

The project is estimated to cost $4.5 million.

Public participation is solicited without regard to race, color, sex, age, religion, national origin, disability or family status.
