Urban Construction Update - November 2012

A brief look at the status of various projects under construction in and around Downtown Jacksonville during the month of November 2012.
Downtown

McDonald's/Family Dollar

Site preparation is now underway for the construction of a new Family Dollar and McDonald's restaurant. The $3.7 million project is expected to be completed in early 2013.







Duval County Courthouse

Bids to renovate old Jacksonville courthouse for State Attorney's Office much higher than the city's initial $19.3 million estimate. Now estimated at $30.9 million, construction is anticipated to start in March 2013.






220 Riverside

Site preparation for the construction of 220 Riverside is now underway.  220 Riverside will feature 18,000 square feet of retail and 294 apartment units when complete in 2014.








RIVERSIDE/AVONDALE

Corrado's Bakery Bistro

Corrado's Bakery Bistro will be opening soon at 813 Lomax Street in Five Points.







Spot 5 On Park

Spot 5 On Park, a restaurant, is now open in Five Points.








Deep Search

Deep Search, an independent music and book store will be opening soon at 822 Lomax Street in Five Points.






GNC

General Nutrition Centers (GNC) is in the process of opening a new location at Riverside Market Square shopping center.






2216 Oak Street

Snap Fitness will be opening in this historic "streetcar" transit oriented development commercial building (constructed in 1923) at 2216 Oak Street.





The Salty-Fig Southern Gastropub

The Salty Fig, A Southern Gastropub is expected to open at 901 King Street this fall.  Salty Fig will feature a bar, dining area and outdoor sidewalk seating.





Goozlepipe & Guttyworks

Construction will be starting soon on King Street's Goozlepipe and Guttyworks.  The estimated value of the project is $1.5 million.






CoRK North

A third warehouse, north of Rosselle Street, is being converted into additional studio, gallery and entertainment space in the popular CoRK Arts District.

Concieved by developer Mac Easton and artist Dolf James, CoRK (Corner of Rosselle & King) is located at 2689 Rosselle Street in Jacksonville, Florida.
The first stage of development is near completion and all the spaces have been occupied. Accordingly, the next stage is underway.

As Mac and Greg continue development on the next stage, tentative plans are for 1) more artist studios and galleries, 2) a live music venue, and 3) space dedicated towards performance art, all which we hope to realize this fall.

Pulp is still in the process of moving forward with opening their second urban Jacksonville location at the Shops of Avondale.







Robert E. Lee High School

New windows have recently been installed as a part of the Robert E. Lee High School restoration project.










SPRINGFIELD

Department of Veterans Affairs Outpatient Clinic

Work on the Department of Veterans Affairs Outpatient Clinic is nearing completion.









Ardy's Eatable Delyghts

Ardy's Eatable Delyghts will soon occupy the former Jerome Brown BBQ resturant space at 9th & Main Streets.





8th & Main

Several storefronts on Main Street, including 1714 North Main (in image below), in the vicinity of 8th Street are receiving facade improvements.







SAN MARCO

San Marco Boulevard Streetscape

The third phase of the San Marco Boulevard Streetscape project, between Laverne Street and San Marco Square, is underway.







Aardwolf Brewery

Construction continues on the adaptive reuse of this historic Hendricks Avenue ice plant into the Aardwolf Brewery. Aardwolf anticipates opening the brewery's taproom in January 2013.






San Marco Station

Construction has not started on San Marco Train Station project, which will be anchored by Panera Bread.






Grape & Grain Exchange and The Parlour

The Grape & Grain Exchange and The Parlour is now open.  






M Shack
