Beaches Construction Update: May 2012
Here's a look at new businesses, closings, and renovations this month in the Jacksonville - Neptune - Atlantic Beaches area.
Da Big Kahuna
Open for business this month on the corner of 5th Ave. S. and 1st St.
W90+
The Avondale retailer's second location in Jax is also open for business this month. More info: https://www.w90plus.com/.
North Beach Fish Camp
Expansion of the upstairs deck can be seen above Sun Dog.
LA Fitness (former Publix on Atlantic Blvd.)
The interior is clearly gutted up close.
Strip on 6th Ave. S.
Some evident fencing is up around this long-vacant strip.
Tappin Book Mine
The local bookstore facing Atlantic Blvd. is closing its doors June 9. There is talk that the owners plan to start an online book retailer.
Soup's On
A new Atlantic Beach location is going into the former Taste! catering space.
Urban Flats Jax Beach
Construction still seems to be at a standstill at the new location.
Wade's World
A new smoke shop opened in the plaza on 11th Ave. N. across Mellow Mushroom.
The Half Moon
The new joint replaces Beach Buds on Penman Rd.
8 til' Lates
The beaches area convenient stores have all closed - to become 7 Eleven's!
Also: Fifth Third Bank's Atlantic Blvd. location has still yet to open; The Denny's sign in the former Village Inn space in Neptune Beach has been taken down; A third Island Girl Cigar Bar location is in the works in Ponte Vedra Beach near Pusser's.
