Beaches Construction Update: June 2011

Not sure about business, but construction is boomin' in the Jacksonville - Neptune- Atlantic Beaches area. Here's a look at new businesses, closings, and renovations this month.
Shopping Plazas on 10th and 11th Avenue N.

Sprint (new), Buddha's Belly Thai, and other shops get facelifts. The new, uniform storefronts are painted purple, orange, or blue.

The plaza along 10th Ave. N., off 3rd St. N (A1A).

Vue mobile at the corner of 10th Ave. and 3rd St. N. The store just opened some months ago and is already closed for "training". The concept was odd - a cell phone store in the front and a skate clothing/watches shop in the back room. The guys who ran it also tagged the outside with graffiti, which is now painted over.

The long-vacant space next door to Vue is soon to be a convenient store.

Pita Pit!

New Jacksonville Beach location of Pita Pit (formerly Lubi's Hot Subs). The chain sandwich shop opened Thursday.

Blues Rock Inn

The oceanfront nightclub and restaurant is now open on N. 1st St. and 8th Ave. The building long sat vacant. It's open everyday from 6 a.m.-2 a.m. with live music daily, and offers rooms for $200/300.

Club O

Formerly "Ocean Club", Club O is the renovated space. The nightclub has an outdoor back patio along the boardwalk and a food stand operates on the patio Thursday-Sunday nights until 3 a.m.

The Pier

The restaurant is up and running on N. 1st St. and 4th Ave.

Green Room Brewing

The microbrewery is opening soon on N. 3rd St. and 2nd Ave.

Cuppy's

The former stand-alone, drive-thru/walk-up coffee and drink cafe on A1A has closed. It's soon to be a Smoothie King.

Cabo's Island Pizza

The longtime, favorite Jax Beach eatery has closed due to poor management.

Col. Mustards

The burger and sandwich joint relocated from Atlantic Beach to A1A and 15th Ave. N.

Poe's Tavern

This new bar and restaurant concept is under construction in the recently-closed Sticky Fingers building in Atlantic Beach. Named after Edgar Allan Poe, this will be just the second location.

Publix Plaza

The long anticipated semi-new Publix Shopping Center off Atlantic Boulevard in Atlantic Beach.

Fifth Third Bank

Future site of a new branch in front of Publix.

Hurricane Grill & Wings

This new location of the chain restaurant opened two weeks ago. It also sits in front of Publix, to the left of the bank.

Vacant Spaces
There are too many vacant spaces and buildings to count in the Beaches area, many longtime for lease.
