Urban Parks: Cathedral Park

Formerly a part of the city's old burial grounds, Cathedral Park may be the best maintained park in Downtown Jacksonville.
Cathedral Park is located on the crest of "Billy Goat Hill" along with the St. Johns Episcopal Church, at the intersection of Church and Market Streets.  "Billy Goat Hill" is the highest elevation within Jacksonville's original city limits downtown.

In 2001, while working on underground utilities for the nearby Parks townhome project, contractors discovered human remains. This area was then determined to be a part of the Old City Burial Grounds, Jacksonville's oldest documented public cemetery. The 19th century graveyard was relocated, allowing the project to move forward. A portion of that burial area was developed into Cathedral Park.

Cathedral Park is located just north of St. John's Episcopal Cathedral at the intersection of Church and Market Streets.
