Commuter Rail Demo Coming to Jacksonville this Weekend

JACKSONVILLE, FL – Congresswoman Corrine Brown and Congressman John L. Mica will join the Jacksonville Transportation Authority and the Florida Department of Transportation to present the latest technology in commuter rail transportation.

The event will be held outside the southeast corner of the Prime Osborn Center at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 10. A Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU) will be on-site for attendees to tour. The DMU is one of the latest technologies in commuter rail systems available to Northeast Florida. In addition to touring the DMU, attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about the Jacksonville Regional Transportation Center, JTA’s upcoming commuter rail study and future transportation issues for the seven counties of Northeast Florida.

“We are excited about the possibility to one day offer commuter rail as part of our regional transportation system,” said Jacksonville Transportation Authority Executive Director/CEO Michael J. Blaylock.

This event is open to transportation professionals, railroad enthusiasts and residents of the seven counties of Northeast Florida. Elected officials representing the seven counties have also been invited to attend.
